Before you get started: Gather the information you need
To add students to your class, you will need to have the their first and last names, their usernames, and
what you want their temporary passwords to be.
Step 1: Create a class
On the Code Editor home page, navigate to your school’s dashboard. Then click “Create class +”.
Step 2: Create class name and add description
Create a class name - this will be seen by you and the students you add to the class. You also have the option to add a description.
Top tip: You use classes to group students and assign them projects. We recommend using a consistent naming convention to help you identify your classes easily.
Step 3: Finding your class
Once your class is created, you will see it on your school dashboard page.
Step 4: Managing your class
Selecting your class title from your school dashboard will bring you to the class page, where you can manage your class.
Step 5: Add a student or teacher to a class
There are 2 methods of adding a teacher or students to classrooms in Code Editor for Education. Both methods will produce the same results, so which tool you use is entirely to personal preference.
Method #1:
Please click 'Class members'. Then click 'Add member to class'. Search for an existing school member to add, and then click onto the school member. Once you have selected all the school members you wish to add to a class, then click 'Add selected members'. The school members will be added to a class.
Method #2:
Navigate to ‘Your School’ using the navigation bar at the top of the screen. Click the ‘Manage Members’ in the upper right hand corner of the screen. As you begin selecting the check box next to names, you will see an action panel appear with an ‘Add to Class’ option; click this to add all selected school members, then select the classroom to which you wish to add them.
Please note: only teachers who are explicitly added to a class can create or manage projects within it. This helps us keep class permissions clear and ensures only the teachers assigned to a class can edit or share content with students.
Step 6: Remove a student from a class
To remove a student to a class, please click 'Class members' on the class page. Navigate to the student, and click the three dots. You will see an option to delete a student. Follow the steps and the student will be deleted from the class!
Please note: this removes them from the class, but does not delete the student or their work from the school account. Any work they’ve done will remain in the class. Also note, that teachers cannot be deleted from a class.
If you want to know how students can log in, then follow this guide.
